Five Star Finds, a family-owned and operated business opened January 31 at Village at Waterford Shopping Center. Owners Marion and Jeff Velocci describe the shop as a “real variety/gift shop” that carries retail, resale and consignment items with a wide selection for men, women and children. Some of the merchandise is gently used, but the shop also has many new items for sale. Five Star Finds carries new, used and artistically refurbished furniture, as well as glassware, kitchenware, antiques and collectibles.
“We have beautiful handbags, wallets and accessories, with a large focus on Coach,” says Marion, who points out that Coach is her favorite designer. Gently used cell phones for major carriers such as Verizon and Sprint are also popular merchandise.
“We have everything from basic flip phones to high-end smartphones,” she says .Although service contracts are not sold at the store, all phones are certified, tested and cleared for activation on the spot.
Custom gift baskets as well as unique, handmade soaps, crocheted clothing and gifts, and personalized accessories offer the shopper a wide variety of choices for special occasions. The artfully decorated store provides a unique and stylish shopping experience.
“When we chose to locate our business in Brandermill, we actually looked at many available spaces in the area and knew instantly that the Village at Waterford was the right spot for us,” says Jeff. “The Brandermill community is a well-respected and established part of Midlothian and is a perfect place for us to build our business. It is also centrally located with so many great neighborhoods and communities. The area offers so much diversity and outstanding neighboring commerce, and the Brandermill Community Association has been very supportive and wonderful.”
The Vellocis, who have two children Carina, 9 and Dante, 17 months old, say the community is strong and built on family values, something that is important to them. “We aren’t just looking to start a business,” they say. “We are looking to put down roots, build relationships and contribute to the community.”
Marion graduated from Montclair State University in New Jersey with a bachelor of science degree in fashion merchandising and marketing. Jeff graduated from the State University of New York at Oswego with a bachelor of arts degree in communications and public relations, and from Stony Brook University on Long Island with a master’s degree in education. Prior to moving to Midlothian in 2009, Marion was manager of technology planning for a large NYC law firm and Jeff taught high school English and journalism on Long Island.
