Chesterfield’s growth rate continues, now at 21 new persons per day moving to the county or 17,310 last year. In support of that growth, Garrett Hart, director of Economic Development, said that there are 5,000 multi-family living units currently under construction in the county.
While the Covid years set back all jurisdictions in Central Virginia, Chesterfield has quickly recovered and now has 185,640 residents working with an unemployment rate of just 2.6%. That includes 4,000 new jobs created last year.
Led by the River City Sportsplex in 2022, there were 63 sporting events generating $39 million in revenue. Hotel room rates are up 10%, averaging $64 nightly, and more hotels are on the horizon.
Chesterfield is particularly interested in female athlete tournaments because those tend to attract the entire family leading to more rooms rented, more eating out, and possible shopping visits.
Hart was the guest speaker in early April at the Brandermill Region Men’s Club meeting. Here is his PowerPoint presentation.
At its May meeting, a county leader will discuss the recently passed FY24 budget that begins July 1st. That meeting will be held at the Brandermill Church at 10 am on Thursday, May 4. All BCA members are invited to attend this free meeting.
