Meet the Brandermill Makos Swim Team!
The Brandermill Makos are a volunteer-run, community-based summer swim team in Midlothian, VA, dedicated to fostering a love of swimming, an active lifestyle, and strong community spirit for youth up to 18 years old. The team combines competitive training with a fun, family-oriented environment, emphasizing developmentally appropriate coaching, personal achievement, and motivational support.

The Brandermill Makos swim team competes in the Richmond Metropolitan Aquatic League, summer-league in Division A In 2018 and 2014, the MAKOS placed first in Division B for both regular season and CHAMPS. In 2015 and 2016 we came in second during the regular season and second in Champs. In 2021, the MAKOS placed third in the Championship meet. We compete against other RMAL teams: ACAC, MAC, YMCA, Granite, Woodlake, Bon Air, Willow Oaks, and other divisions.
Competing in the Richmond Metropolitan Aquatic League (RMAL), the Makos face off against teams such as ACAC, MAC, YMCA, Granite, Woodlake, Bon Air, and Willow Oaks. The team has a history of success, including first-place finishes in Division B during the 2014 and 2018 regular seasons and Champs, second-place finishes in 2015 and 2016, and a third-place finish at the 2021 Championship meet.
In 2025, the Brandermill Makos proudly fielded 177 swimmers, finishing the regular season with an impressive 5-1 record, with the only loss against ACAC. At the RMAL Championship meet held on July 15 at SwimRVA, 76 swimmers competed—the highest number in recent team history—and the Makos placed 3rd out of 16 teams, just 1.5 points shy of 2nd place. The team also earned the Spirit Award for demonstrating outstanding team spirit. With these results, Brandermill and ACAC are now tied with 12 championship meet victories each.
With approximately 177 athletes, the Makos embody dedication, determination, and the drive to succeed, all while fostering a positive and supportive atmosphere for swimmers of all skill levels within the Brandermill community.
