Fall Fest unites community and urban neighborsPosted November 12, 2012 at 4:59 PM, Filed Under: BCA News, Front Page, Village Mill
Who is Your Neighbor?
The Brandermill Church and the BCA addressed this question with a Fall Festival for neighbors near and far.
With guidance from Wendy McCaig, founder of Embrace Richmond, church members began a dialogue with residents of an inner city community where a number of members had been volunteering. The group sought to strengthen connections based on the concerns that all families share by discussing the similar struggles, hopes and dreams of families, whether in suburbia or the inner city.
Tammy Tipton-Nay, director of Children’s and Family Ministries, coordinated with BCA Community Services Director Jennifer Strader to bring together guests from the inner city, the church, and the entire Brandermill community at the October 20 Fall Festival in Sunday Park.
The celebration featured live music, games, food, and the packaging of 10,000 meals for Stop Hunger Now among Christian fellowship.
