Members of the Student Council Association at Swift Creek Middle School swarmed the hallways on Valentine’s Day delivering carnations to hundreds of excited students. As part of the carnation sale, students also voted for their favorite teacher Cupids and Cupidettes.
This year’s winners were eighth-grade math teacher Clay Hayes and sixth-grade English teacher Rhea Calfee. Hayes surged to a last-minute victory on the final day when his donations went from 45 cents to over $20.
Calfee took the title for the first time in three years, edging past sixth-grade English teacher Colleen Lee in the final week.
Money raised by the SCA sale of carnations will likely be used to purchase classroom novels for English classes.
Beginning Band
Swift Creek Middle School Band Director Myrne McGonigle issues an invitation to fifth graders who will be attending SCMS next fall. Students who have an interest in music and want to learn to play a wind or percussion instrument are invited to sign up for the SCMS Beginning Band. Band members have lots of fun and perform in concerts for family and friends.
Information on Beginning Band will be available from elementary school music teachers. For answers to questions, please email McGonigle at myrne_mcgonigle@ccpsnet.net.
