The Clover Hill High School show choir competition season began on February 17 at the Homestead Classic Showcase in Fort Wayne, Ind.

CHHS show choirs Iridescence and New Dimensions performed at the high level audiences and judges have come to expect. With the intricately choreographed, colorful performances, and accompanied by Big Cheeks Show Band, New Dimensions took the coveted Grand Championship award and Iridescence received the Open Division Grand Champion award. Big Cheeks continued its two-year winning streak with the top award for Best Show Band for both the Mixed Division and Women’s Division performances. Along with the group awards, the single Showmanship Award was given to New Dimensions’ Dominique Jenkins, and Best Performer was awarded to Iridescence’s Briauna Vinniane.

IridescenseCrew, the unsung heroes of the show choirs, proved their strong work ethic by earning high praise from the show choirs and show band.

This is the first time a Virginia high school has won the coveted top awards. “We are incredibly excited to have won both the women’s and mixed division at the Homestead Show Choir Classic. We are the first Virginia show choirs to have won a competition in Indiana in the history of show choir,” said CHHS Choral Director Sandra Thomas. “Indiana is the birth place of show choir so it is a difficult state in which to compete. Iridescence, New Dimensions and Big Cheeks have worked extremely hard to prepare for this competition season. It is great to have the validation from such an elite panel of judges.”
