Screenplay readings take place January 13Posted January 7, 2013 at 2:27 PM, Filed Under: Front Page
On Sunday, January 13 from noon to 4:30 p.m, the Virginia Screenwriters Forum will host screenplay table-read performances presented by the Virginia Screenwriters Forum Actors Ensemble at CenterStage in the Gottwald Playhouse.
Wagner’s work is among four screenplays to be read. Her screenplay “Believe” tells the story of a young Brooklyn public defender, who questions her deeply religious faith about good and evil. When she is chosen to defend 20-year-old Roberto Solano, accused of a brutal murder that he has no memory of, she comes to realize the boy is possessed. In order to win her case and to save her client’s soul, she must prove to a jury that the devil exists. The story is based on an actual plea of “not guilty by reason of demonic possession” in the judicial court system.
Wagner teaches screenwriting at the University of Richmond and has had numerous screenplays optioned, with one cast for CBS. In 2012, one of her screenplays was a finalist at Sundance.
Andy Edmunds, director of the Virginia Film Office, will open the event by discussing the making of the film “Lincoln.” The event is free, but reservations are required. Call 744-1718 during office hours Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to noon.
